A Walk Among Trees!
In this activity, students will go on a nature walk! On this walk, students will tally how many different trees they see along with how many different tree life stages they see. This nature walk gives students the opportunity to be more aware of the nature around them!

Essential questions:
Are there a lot of trees around your school? If not, why do you think there aren’t many trees?
Are most of the trees around big and old or small and young?
Instructions
Gather the children at the starting point of the nature walk. Explain the purpose of the activity, emphasizing the importance of observing and appreciating the natural world around them.
Briefly discuss how to identify different trees based on their leaves, bark, size, and shape. Remind students of the different tree life stages they may see: seed, sprout, sapling, and adult tree.
Show the children how to use their tally sheets to record the number of different trees and tree life stages they observe. Encourage them to work in pairs or small groups for support.
Begin the nature walk, guiding the children along the designated trail or path. Encourage them to observe closely and ask questions about the trees they encounter. Remind them to be respectful of the natural environment and avoid damaging plants or wildlife.
Offer assistance and guidance as needed, helping children identify unfamiliar trees and distinguishing between different life stages.
Pause periodically to discuss interesting findings and observations. Encourage the children to share their experiences and insights with the group.
After exploring for a suitable amount of time, gather the children together to conclude the nature walk. Review the tally sheets and discuss the diversity of trees and tree life stages observed.
Remind the children to clean up any trash or belongings before leaving the area, emphasizing the importance of leaving the environment undisturbed.
