Read-Along Activity: Do I Have to Wear a Coat? by Rachel Isadora

Objective

In the book, Do I Have to Wear a Coat? by Rachel Isadora, student’s will learn and review the different types of activities and clothing we wear throughout the seasons. After viewing the read aloud, students will discuss some of their favorite seasonal activities. Finally, they will draw themselves in an appropriate outfit for their favorite seasons. This activity reinforces social-emotional skills such as self-awareness, self-management, and responsible decision making as they contemplate the best clothing choices for each season.

Activity Duration:

  • 30-45 minutes

Instructions

  1. Watch: “Do I have to Wear a Coat?” read-aloud video for your students.

  2. Think, Pair, Share: Following the video, instruct students to find a buddy or table group to share with. Have students discuss what they like about each season. “I like winter because I can...”

  3. Draw: Using the worksheet, have your students draw a picture of themselves dressed for their favorite season. Be sure to ask them why they chose their outfit! (Worksheet Available Here)
